Casey Anthony Trial: The Media

Is murder entertainment?

Is it just me or is In Session turning the Casey Anthony murder trial into an acting audition?

Seriously, it seems to be all about the commentators and how great they look, how big they can smile and how much they can sensationalize what is happening to the point of even saying things that aren’t true. When you recap what has gone on in the courtroom you do not alter what people have said yet the people on In Session do just that. Obviously these are the first thoughts that come to their minds but it’s not what the people in the trial said. This changes the meaning.

Sometimes it even sounds as though Ryan Smith’s comments were taped beforehand, as “reality TV” often does. One witness stated to police that he took a taxi and the police found this to be true. Mr. Smith suggested afterwards that the man borrowed someone else’s car. Was he listening to the testimony? Does he feel that ad libbing is required? Perhaps he was too busy to pay attention. I realize that it’s the media’s job to create entertainment, but seriously, this is a death penalty trial.

Casey Jordan talks about Casey Anthony’s mental state as though she was a psychiatrist rather than an attorney. She does not actually know whether the defendant is a sociopath or not. She never even met her. But it sounds really good. I wish she would stop acting as if she was the star of a sitcom. She seems genuinely happy when she smiles, which she does a lot, but she smiles inappropriately. Child murder, oh goody! Death penalty, sounds fun! I think she just wants to be on TV. She enjoys having people look at her.

All in all, I think the judgments of most of the commentators and “news people” are tainted due to their desire to be inflammatory and simply noticed.

I wish Casey Jordan would learn to use English properly. The word "obtuse" was misused by her yesterday. Today she said something about science that made no sense at all. Science is not an expert and certainly not more than one expert, it is science.
